In a past life, Miyuki and Tenchi were bethrothed and very much in love. In this life, Tenchi is Chouko's older brother. When Tenchi was eighteen and Chouko was five, the plane Tenchi was on crashed. His body was killed, but his soul refused to die. It was transferred to Dantooine in a special capsule. Tenchi's soul lived there until, on Earth, Miyuki's mother was killed. Since there was now no ruler of Aquaris, the ruling system on Dantooine found Tenchi's body, and his soul was placed back into it. Tenchi was reincarnated at the same age he was when his body was killed. For three years, Tenchi ruled Aquaris as the Prime Minister. When Miyuki came to the Snickers galaxy, Tenchi wanted to turn the throne over to her, but she refused, saying that her Sailor duties came first. Tenchi left her with her father's lightsaber and the two began a relationship. Then Tenchi found out that he was the Aquarian Knight and he couldn't rule, either. The Senate on Aquaris elected a new Prime Minister, Umi Minami, to rule so that Tenchi and Miyuki could go on being Sailor Aquaris and the Aquarian Knight.
