Kalil snickered uncontrollably. He looked over to his twin, Gareth, and saw him in the same state.
"We better straighten up if we want anybody to believe us," Kalil said, still snickering.
"But I can't!!" Gareth managed to blurt out as he chuckled.
"Me neither, but let's try!! On the count of three, okay?"
"Okay."
"One... two... three!"
Kalil and Gareth put on straight faces and stared at each other. Gareth broke the silence a second later, laughing out loud. Kalil rolled his eyes.
"This won't work," Kalil sighed.
"Oh, come on, brother! Let's go a head and see how it turns out, okay?" Gareth pleaded.
"Fine. But I'm warning you, if we can't straighten up our act, then no one will believe us," Kalil said, smiling.
"Let's go!" Gareth said as he walked away and straight into the door.
"And try not to be so clumsy!" Kalil sighed.
"Yeah, that's your job now," Gareth smiled.
They both cleared their throats and walked out of Kalil's bedroom.
They turned and went their separate ways.
"Gareth!" Tejina yelled as she ran toward the guy with the brown braid.
"Uh, hi," the former Kalil said as Tejina hugged him.
With a smile on her face, Tejina looked into his eyes. Then her face lost the smile it had, and was replaced with an even bigger grin. She then shook her head.
"What?" Gareth-Kalil asked."You two. You have so much fun -" She lowered her voice so that anybody listening wouldn't hear her. "- don't you, Kalil?"
A big grin crossed his face, "Yes, we do, and the name is Gareth." He walked away and purposefully fell over a chair.
The other girls in the room screamed out Gareth's name and ran to his aid.
Tejina just stood and smiled.
"Kalil, you have your clumsy-volume turned up on high, don't you?" asked Tashita after she saw him trip over his own feet.
"Yeah, I do," Kalil-Gareth said.
Tashita went to aid the former Gareth. As she pulled him up, he almost fell again, but luckily Tashita caught him in her arms.
"Thanks," he managed to say.
"Don't worry about it, Gareth," Tashita said with a wink.
"How... how did you know?" the former Gareth asked.
Tashita chuckled. "Because Kalil isn't that clumsy. Just go have fun."
Kalil-Gareth started walking off and Tashita yelled after him, "Walk like there is a big book balanced on your head and you don't want it to fall."
Kalil-Gareth gave Tashita a thumbs up.
"Gareth," Priire called. She needed him to help her fix her ship, and he was the only one that could get parts at a discount. Now if she could only find him.
The blond rounded a corner and saw somebody fall.
"Found him," she mumbled under her breath.
"How can somebody be so clumsy?" Priire asked as she helped the guy up.
"I just am," Gareth-Kalil said with a smile.
"At least your good at fixing things, because I need your help in fixing Black Fire Talon," Priire said while dragging Gareth-Kalil with her.
"Don't I get a say in this?" He was reluctantly following her.
"Nope."
"Mmmmm, something smells good," Kalil-Gareth said as he cautiously entered the kitchen.
"Thanks," said a girl with black hair tipped with green.
"Can I help you with anything?" he asked, hoping to try anything that she was cooking.
"Actually, I do need your help, Kalil," Nom said while mixing some batter.
"Really? Well, what can I do?" he said while his mouth started watering.
"See that big bowl full of chocolate chip cookie dough over there?" Kalil-Gareth nodded his head. "Could you bring it over to me?"
"Sure!" Kalil-Gareth carefully picked it up. He slowly walked over toward Nom, who was intensely mixing ingredients. Halfway to his destination, he tripped and the bowl and its contents went flying.
"Look out!!" he yelled out as he fell.
The warning didn't come soon enough. Nom was soon covered in chocolate chip cookie dough, from her head down to her feet. She wiped her face off with a nearby towel.
"Out! Get out now!!" Nom pointed her dough-covered arm toward the door.
"Sorry." Kalil-Gareth ran out before he could get into any more trouble.
Once he left and was out of sight from the dough-covered girl, he grinned. Kalil was blamed for that, not him. His grin grew bigger. He was having a lot of fun; he wondered how his identical twin was doing.
"Is this the thingamijiger you wanted?" Gareth-Kalil asked holding up something that he wasn't familiar with at all.
"That's not a thingamijiger, that's a polarized coupling!!" Priire yelled. She shook her head and once again got what she needed.
"Sorry. I guess you can say I'm not myself today," Gareth-Kalil said with a smirk.
"Okay, fine, whatever." Priire shrugged and went back to work on her ship.
"At least you can hand me a hydrospanner."
"Would this be it?" Gareth-Kalil just reached in the tool box and picked up something at random.
Priire sighed, "You're no help to me right now. You can go now."
"Oh, come on. I can be of some kind of help, can't I?" Gareth-Kalil said as Priire was digging around in her tools.
"Fine. I can't find the right tool I need. Could you go inside my ship and grab that tool box I showed you earlier?" Priire asked.
"Of course I can." Gareth-Kalil ran toward the ship, tripping on the open box in his path. Tools and spare parts went flying in every direction.
He looked over at Priire, who had covered her head with her gloved hands.
"Why don't you leave?" Priire shook her head in disbelief.
"Ummm, can I..."
"NO!!" Priire cut him off.
Gareth-Kalil threw up his hands in surrender and started walking away. As he left, he heard Priire curse about how incredibly clumsy Gareth was. A big grin crossed his face. He was having a blast!! Now to find his twin to see how he was doing.
"You wouldn't believe what Gareth did!!" Ippin shook her head.
"Well, it can't be as bad as what Kalil did!" Chikako said.
"Kalil interrupted my sleep!!" Annika chimed in.
"Gareth tripped and made me drop my stack of manga!" Yuki said.
"It wasn't my fault! The ground was uneven!" Gareth-Kalil complained as he walked in the room where they were gathered.
Yuki just rolled her eyes. Tashita and Tejina, who were sitting next to each other on the couch, smiled at each other. They had managed not to burst out laughing when they were listening to everybody tell each other what Kalil and Gareth had done. They were coming awfully close when the former Gareth entered the room.
"What's going on in here?" Kalil-Gareth asked as he too entered the room.
"All the messes you have made!!" Priire and Nom yelled out at the same time.
Gareth and Kalil pointed at each other. "It was him!"
Just as they said that, Tashita burst out laughing. Tejina couldn't hold it in any longer either. The whole room turned around to look at them, they were now crying from laughing.
"What?" Annika said, clueless.
Tashita couldn't speak, so Tejina took it upon herself to tell them that they had been fooled. "Kalil and Gareth had traded places."
Yuki, Chikako, Ippin, Priire, Annika, and Nom grabbed nearby pillows and threw them at the twins. The laughing twins ducked and dodged pillows as best as they could. But they were no match for the six girls with an endless supply of pillows. They all ended up laughing as soon as the six girls had gotten everything out of their systems.
"Did your parents have to deal with this?" Yuki asked while still laughing.
"I don't know," the defeated Kalil said. "I don't remember my parents."
"Oh. Sorry,"Yuki apologized.
"Yeah, no problem. It's not your fault," Kalil said.
While some of the girls left the room, Kalil's face grew serious.
"What's wrong?" Tashita asked.
"I don't remember my parents. The only family I know is my twin, Gareth."
"What are you saying about me?" Gareth walked over as soon as he heard his name.
Kalil looked questioningly up at Gareth. "Do you remember our parents?"
"Not really. All I remember is my sister," Gareth answered.
"A sister? We have a sister?" Kalil asked, surprised.
"Yeah, she was caring and quiet. I don't remember our parents though." Gareth plopped in a chair.
"Why didn't you tell me we had a sister?" Kalil got off the floor and also sat in a chair.
"I thought you knew." Kalil shook his head. "Oh, okay. Kalil, we have a sister," Gareth smiled.
"Thanks, I would of never known." Kalil once again shook his head. "What's her name?"
"Kyna."
"Do you remember where she lives?" Kalil asked hopefully.
Gareth slowly shook his head, "The last time I saw her was when I moved out of her house to go live on my own."
"You didn't keep in touch with her?" Kalil sounded surprised.
"I tried. I sent a bunch of letters to her. I never got a response." Gareth frowned.
"Well, I think we need to find her and our parents!" Kalil quickly stood up.
Gareth also stood up. "I think so too. Ummm, how?"
Kalil found Myra in her usual spot enjoying the sun's rays. Kalil shook his head.
"Can't get enough of that sun, huh?" Kalil chuckled.
Myra lifted her head, and shook her head no. She had a smile on her face. What does Tashita's soulmate want? Myra asked herself.
Inside the temple, Tashita answered. Kalil and Gareth are wanting to find their family.
Myra raised an eyebrow, or she would have if she could. How does that involve me?
Tashita laughed. You'll find out. Myra didn't like the sound of that.
"I have a question, Myra," Kalil began. "My twin and I want to find our family. And we need your help."
Myra looked questioningly at Kalil. Gareth stood behind Kalil some feet away.
"We need a ride. Could you take us where we need to go?" Gareth chimed in, still standing back.
Is that all they want? Myra asked Tashita.
Yeah. Are you able to take them? I should ask, are you willing to take them? Tashita asked.
Myra chuckled, Yeah, I can take them, and I will. I am bored anyway.
Tashita smiled. I thought you might be willing to.
Myra shook her head yes to Kalil and Gareth.
"You will?" Gareth asked.
Myra shook her head yes again. She stood up and stretched out her wings. She then knelt down to let them climb on her back.
Be careful with them, Tashita said.
Don't worry, I will, Myra smiled.
And with that, she flew off.
"Is that the place?" Kalil yelled in order to be heard above the noise. Gareth nodded his head.
"Okay, you can take us down there," Kalil told Myra.
Myra landed in a small neighborhood. She looked around as people weren't quite sure what to do, seeing a dragon and all. She laid down, letting Gareth and Kalil slide down.
"Don't worry, she won't harm you," Kalil said to the kids.
As soon as they heard that, they all ran up to Myra and started petting her. Myra enjoyed the attention.
Gareth, with Kalil a few paces behind him, walked up to the front door of one of the houses and rang the doorbell. An elderly lady answered the door. Her plump little face showed no emotion. Then her expression changed in a second. Her plump little face now displayed a huge grin and shining eyes.
"Why, Gareth! Can it be you?" the little lady asked.
"Yes, it's me. And this is my twin, Kalil," Gareth said.
The lady didn't wait any longer as her arms flew around Gareth's waist. Gareth kneeled and hugged her back.
"Why, it's been so long since I last seen you. Are you still clumsy as ever?"
"Yeah, I am and yes, I know it's been a long time. But I have a question." Gareth's smile turned into frown.
Upon seeing this, the lady's smile also turned into a frown. She sighed.
"Do you know what happened to my sister, Kyna?" Gareth asked the small figure.
The lady sighed again. "No, I'm sorry. A couple of days after you left, she packed up the house. Your parents were there helping her."
"They were? You wouldn't happen to know where they live, would you?" Gareth asked.
"Again, I'm sorry. No, I have no clue," the little lady answered.
"That's okay." He hugged the small lady.
She smiled again. "Trying to find your family, huh?"
"Yeah."
"I might be of some use to you after all." The sparkle in her eye gave her a mischievous look.
"Are you sure about this?" Kalil asked Gareth as they walked up to an unfamiliar house.
"Yeah, well, no." He stopped walking, and his shoulder slumped.
The elderly lady was able to give them a few leads of to where they could look. The last three houses they tried, failed. Sure, their last name matched theirs - Aman - but none of them could help. Kalil and Gareth sighed.
"Well, come on. There are only two more houses. We have to try," Kalil said. Gareth agreed.
They slowly made their way up to the front door and rang the bell.
"Yes?" a golden-blond-haired woman answered the door. Her eyes slowly grew large. Her hand covered her open mouth. "It can't be?"
"It can't be what?" Gareth asked.
"You two..." She was at a loss for words.
"Do you know us?" Kalil asked hopefully.
She nodded, "Kalil, Gareth, I presume?"
Kalil and Gareth nodded their heads. And before they all knew, they were in a group hug.
"I... I..." She couldn't get the words out.
Kalil gently pressed his fingers against her lips. "It's okay. You don't have to speak," He smiled, and tears started filling his eyes.
"Kyna, Alastair, come quick!!" she yelled back behind her.
Two figures quickly appeared behind the woman.
"That face, that... is it?" a black-eyed girl said.
The blond nodded her head.
"Ummm, hate to interrupt, but could you introduce yourselves?" Kalil asked. "I'm sorry, but I don't know anybody."
"It's okay. Come on in and we can talk," a black-eyed man said.
They all went inside and sat down in the living room.
"My name is Kyna," the aquamarine-with-purple-streaks-haired girl said. "I am your older sister. Gareth already knows me."
The brownish-black-haired man spoke next. "I am your father, Alastair. And this is your Mother, Cressida."
"How did you find us?" Cressida asked.
Gareth smiled. "A friend of mine helped."
"You still clumsy?" Alastair asked Gareth.
Gareth nodded his head. Alastair laughed. "I remember when you would run around the house and run into walls. We thought it was a phase that you were going through. I guess not." His black eyes twinkled.
"Whatever happened to me? I mean, us? I don't remember any of you, but Gareth only remembers Kyna," Kalil asked, confused.
Cressida sighed. "I'm sorry. We are not quite sure what happened to you, Kalil. One day, your father and I came home and Kyna said that you had disappeared. We looked all over for you, but we never found you. As soon as Kyna could move out on her own, she took your brother and left. We never saw her again until a couple of years ago, when Gareth moved away. She didn't want to live alone, so she moved back in with us."
"Is that why you didn't respond to any of my letters? Because you moved?" Gareth asked Kyna.
Kyna nodded her head. "I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to do that to you. I didn't think you would be sending letters to me."
Gareth couldn't believe his ears. "You're my sister, the only family I've know. Of course I would keep in touch."
"How did you two meet?" Alastair asked before things got out of hand.
The twins looked at each other, and then Gareth said, "Our girlfriends - they had us meet. Otherwise we wouldn't have met."
"You have girlfriends? Both of you?" Cressida exclaimed.
"Yeah. My girlfriend's name is Tashita. Gareth's girlfriend's name is Tejina," Kalil explained.
All of a sudden, Kyna broke down and started crying. Gareth and Kalil exchanged confused looks and looked toward Alastair and Cressida.
"I'm sorry. I have to tell you all something," Kyna said while she was wiping tears away.
"What?" Alastair asked.
"Please don't hate me," Kyna added.
The room grew silent, deathly silent.
"Now that we are all together, I need to get this off my chest," Kyna took a deep breath and began her story, "Kalil's disappearance isn't a mystery. When I was nine, that would of made Kalil and Gareth four, I had been left in charge to take care of the twins while Mom and Dad had left shortly to take care of some unexpected business."
Alastair and Cressida nodded their heads; they remembered.
"Everything was going fine. Gareth and Kalil were happy playing in their sandbox. I was reading a book, not too far away from where they were playing. Then this black opening appeared. This woman came out and took Kalil. I quickly ran over and picked up Gareth. I pleaded for her to give me back Kalil, or to take me instead. She didn't want me; she needed a younger child. I don't know what she wanted, but she was determined to take him away. I threw a nearby rock at her red-haired head. She spun around and threatened me to stay silent, or she would come back and kill my family and leave me with nothing." Kyna was drowning in tears. Kalil came and sat next to her, and grabbed her in a hug.
"Shhh, it's okay," Kalil whispered.
"You probably hate me, don't you?" Kyna sobbed.
"No, not at all. It's not your fault. You did all you could." Kalil hugged Kyna tighter. "You saved Gareth." Kyna rested her head on Kalil's shoulder.
There was silence in the room once more. Kalil and Kyna clung to each other while Gareth, Alastair, and Cressida had tears in their eyes.
The silence was broken a few minutes later by Alastair. "Is that why you're a police officer?"
Kyna nodded her head, "I wanted to get rid of all the evil I could, and that was the best way I could think of."
A few minutes later, the room was filled with laughter. They were remembering old and forgotten times. Gareth told everyone whatever happened when he moved out of his sister's house, except his girlfriend being a senshi. Kalil told them he woke up one morning on Earth. He told them he lived on the streets and then he had wound up here. He left out his past of being Ariel's follower; he also left out that his girlfriend was also a senshi, and that he himself was a knight.
Alastair and Cressida wanted to see their sons' girlfriends, so Kalil had Myra fly to the temple and get them. Myra came back with Tashita and Tejina.
"So, who's Tashita and who's Tejina?" Alastair asked.
Tejina smiled, "I am Tejina, Gareth's boyfriend." Gareth came up and threw an arm around her shoulders.
"My name is Tashita." Before she finished, Kalil surprised her with a big bear hug. Tashita laughed.
Gareth introduced the family to Tejina and Tashita. Tashita and Tejina were glad that their boyfriends had found their family.
"I'm glad they found each other," Tejina whispered to Tashita. Tashita nodded her head.
Looks like a very happy family, Myra observed.
Tashita sighed and smiled. Yeah, and I'm happy for them.
